Ok so im getting a labrador puppy in 2 weeks and ive been researching insurance for like 3 days straight and im more confused than when i started lol. Trupanion seems good but its expensive and has that 90% only option. Pets Best is cheaper but the reviews are mixed. Lemonade looks modern and easy but is it actually good? Help me out here, what are you guys using and why did you pick it?

I have Trupanion for my lab and honestly the 90% is worth it. Labs are prone to hip dysplasia and my boy needed surgery at age 5. Trupanion covered like $8k of it. Yes its more expensive monthly but when you need it, you REALLY need it
how much do you pay monthly if you dont mind sharing?
Started at $65 when he was a puppy, now up to about $95 at age 7. It goes up every year but still worth it imo
I use Pets Best and its been fine for me honestly. Had 2 claims in 3 years and both got paid without issues. I pay $38/month for my mixed breed. I think the bad reviews are from people who didnt read the fine print about waiting periods and exclusions
Lemonade is fine for basic stuff but be careful with the coverage limits. They cap certain things that other companies dont. Read the policy documents not just the marketing. Their app is nice tho lol
good point about reading the actual policy. gonna do that tonight
honestly for a lab puppy I'd go Trupanion or Healthy Paws. big dogs = big bills. you want the most comprehensive coverage you can get. learned that the hard way with my great dane
agree with everyone saying Trupanion for a lab. one thing nobody mentioned - check if the breeder offers any trial insurance. a lot of reputable breeders include 30-60 days of free coverage and you can convert it to a full policy. thats what we did and it made the decision easier since we were already enrolled
small update if anyones still following this - started with Lemonade because the app was nice but switched to Healthy Paws after 6 months. Lemonade had way too many sub-limits on things that mattered. like a $5k limit on cruciate ligament issues which is exactly what labs commonly need. Healthy Paws has no per-condition caps. read the fine print!!
