Just filed my first claim - here's how it went

So my 3 year old golden had to have surgery last week for a torn ACL. Total vet bill was $4,800 and i was honestly terrified to file the claim because id heard horror stories about insurance companies finding ways to deny everything. But honestly? It went way smoother than expected. Submitted everything through the app, got a request for the vet records within 2 days, and they approved it within a week. Got 80% back which was almost $3,900. Just wanted to share a positive experience for once lol

Thats awesome to hear! Which company are you with? Ive been comparing a few and the claims process is honestly the thing im most worried about.

Im with Healthy Paws. Been paying about $45/month for the past 2 years and this is my first time actually using it. Definitely worth it now lol

glad it worked out for you! my experience was... not great. took almost 3 weeks and they tried to say my cats dental issue was pre-existing even tho she was fine at her last checkup. had to appeal twice

This is what worries me. How do you even prove something isnt pre-existing??

keep ALL your vet records. every single checkup. thats the only way to fight it

$45/month sounds reasonable actually. I've been putting off getting insurance because I thought it would be way more expensive. Maybe its time to actually look into it

We went through the same surgery with our lab. Heads up that golden and lab owners should know ACL injuries often happen to both legs eventually. Our insurance covered both surgeries 18 months apart because neither was pre-existing when we signed up. Just something to keep in mind for continued coverage.
