We just adopted a 4 year old rescue and honestly we dont know much about her medical history. The shelter gave us what records they had but its pretty sparse. Now im reading all these policies and they all mention pre-existing conditions wont be covered. Does that mean if she develops something that MIGHT have started before we got her theyre just gonna deny it? How does this even work with rescues? Anyone have experience with this?

I went through this exact thing! Get her a full checkup ASAP and make sure everything is documented as healthy right now. That becomes your baseline. If something shows up later that wasnt in that initial checkup, it should be covered.
oh thats smart. we have an appointment next week. should i specifically ask them to note that shes healthy? like is there certain language that helps?
yes! ask for a wellness exam and have them note no signs of chronic conditions. get copies of everything. trust me you want that paper trail
I work at a vet clinic and we see this all the time. Most insurance companies have a waiting period (usually 14 days for accidents, 6 months for some conditions). During that time, anything that shows up could be considered pre-existing. But if you get that clean bill of health first and then nothing shows up during the waiting period, youre usually fine.
Some companies are better about rescues than others tbh. Embrace was pretty good with my rescue pittie. They understood that shelter records are incomplete and didnt penalize us for it
